Learning Outcomes

As a result of the conscientious study of these notes, and completion of all the exercises, you should be able to:

  • Calculate how to counteract tidal effects on a short inshore passage by working up a course to steer on a paper chart.
  • Estimate the approximate amount of time required for a passage.
Explain simply how to work up a course to steer for a passage of 2 or more hours of tide.
  • Explain the essential differences between an estimated position and a course to steer.
